For this week’s reading, “Introduction. ‘The Time to Fight Is Now’: Asian American   Women, Academia’s Socially Engineered ‘Privileged Oppressed,’ Go Rogue,” by Kieu Caroline Valverde and Wei Ming Dariotis, they talk about how Asian American women in academia fight for their equal rights. The article covers how hard it is for people of color, such as Asian American women, to make a name for themselves in academics. It’s already known that Asian American’s are categorized to follow the “model minority,” but how can our society now eliminate this stereotype? Because of this model minority myth, Asian Americans are assumed to do well in academia, but what happens if one needs help? What resources do Asian Americans have to seek help? I think because of the stereotypes society  imposes on the Asian American community, they lack the support they need when facing difficulties and issues, such as mental health and mental illness. From the reading, Asian American women are struggling and fighting for equal rights in education. When fighting and standing up together, we become resilient and make our voices heard to create change. I hope as a community, we can continue to show support, fight alongside, and advocate for change.
