While reading “The Time to Fight Is Now” excerpt in the book Fight the Tower, I've realized how much I resonate with the idea of coming to a realization of the current situation and deciding to fight back against "social engineering" and injustice. When talking about injustice, topics such as racism, stereotypes, racial inequality are important in our discussion. However, in addition to being a racial issue, injustice is also a class issue, which in my experience isn't discussed as often, despite its prominence and importance in our society. While specific racial groups, such as Asian-Americans and African-Americans are more affected or harder hit by issues such income inequality and the concentration of wealth and power at the top, this problem is prevalent across our society and affects almost everyone who isn't part of the elite in some shape or form, regardless of race. The figure below shows the scale of the problem of economic inequality in the United States. This factors in to the premise that Professor Valverde also touched on in lecture, about being on a "conveyor belt" and coming face to face with inequality, injustice and realizing you aren't exempt. Coming to this realization could be an inspiration to fight back against institutions that keep in place or expand economic inequality; institutions that in addition to discriminating based on race, also discriminate based on wealth and class.
