Yun Liu, A01, Week 4

According to “Investigating Discrimination: Injustice against Women of Color in the Academy,” Jane Junn and Mai’a K. Davis Cross describes how women of color in academy encounter injustice and discrimination in employment and promotion. White junior staff in the university have higher probability of tenure than Asian American women do. Asian American women scholars are considered as the lowest hierarchy in the academic field, experiencing the injustice which threatens their career and even their health.
After reading this article, I realize how difficult the situation women of color in the academy. It seems that people distrust women of color and think them inherently incohesive and lack capacity even though women of color have great achievements. Under such a hostile environment, women of color should stop staying silent and unite to fight against injustice. As W. P., who writes, “Who Killed Soek-Fang Sim,” “fear is no longer an option; silence is no longer an option.” Soak-Fang was mocked due to her accent and rumors, and she crumbled and desperately died due to discrimination and verbal violence. W. P depicts the story of Soek-Fang to encourages women of color to speak out their feelings and fight with discrimination. It’s vital for people no matter what race they are to respect women of color and offer them equal rights for employment and opportunities.

Question: Do women of color have any sources of support like laws, labor unions?
