In this week’s reading, I read the poem “Who Killed Soek-Fang Sim,” which was written by Wang Ping. This poem impressed me a lot. It introduces the unfairness and discrimination that Asian American women would face in academic field by using the first-person perspective. I thought a lot when I read the sentence “Are we good enough? Will ever be good enough.” It is a common but ridiculous phenomenon in the academic field that people who are good at academic field cannot get a higher place and be admitted only because of their race, their skin color. In the poem, the writer suggests people to stand together to ask for the justice and we should not be silent anymore.
With time goes by, many things have developed so fast and a lot of problems have been solved. However, it is sad the unfairness still exists in the academic field. Asian-American women still need to pay more and more hard-working to get the same higher place as white men. Although they are good enough, they are still be ignored or criticized. These kind of ignorance and discrimination always led Asian-American women in huge pressure. They try their best to do better just to get recognized. However, it is a long and desperate process. It is necessary to stop this phenomenon. They should be admitted and praised based on their achievements.
My question toward this question is “Which departments in the university are relatively fair?”
