This week's reading is about “Fight the Tower: Women of Color in Academia Manifesto ix Prologue: TakingAction: Asian American Faculty against Injustices in the Academy.” Based on this title (academy), you already know it is about what happened in school. I can separate it into two parts: education as a kid and school hiring staff as an adult. During the whole time, people look at Asians as the stereotype which is a hard worker, high achiever and all successful. So that they believe Asians are rich and no need for extra help. I mean even though that is true, it should not be the reason why they ignored those Asians who are in poor as they can observe. They do not help them with academic support. Besides, it does not matter if they are poor or rich, as soon as they born in the US, they have the birthright, the benefits of citizenship and they deserve whatever as an American. However, most of them did not receive any of that but ignorance and discrimination. Those Asians' kids found out that it is so hard to get good-quality education through kindergarten to twelve-year-old. There is an Asian woman tried to find a school for her daughter but there is the only option for either Blacks and Whites. So which one can her daughter attend and the answer was none of them. Because of this, she went to the supreme court and this problem was actually get solved and now a few Asian Americans can attend school with the White. But there came other issues inside the school. Those Asian kids are lacking good teacher especially for language learning and lacking communication chances with school while some of their parents are with limit speaking or working skills.
Finally, they got into school until college. Most Asians have to keep going on their education life. For Whites, college means the threshold for becoming a middle class. But for Asians, they need extra or higher education level to be able to get the same treatment as Whites.
After they graduate, if they are hired by some universities or colleges, there are more challenges for them. As the faculty, Asians are judged less competent and unworthy. Except for the racism, they (Asian women) also received gender discrimination which is adding insult to injury. These kinds of treatment made some of them stand out to challenge campus and administration. After that, more and more school's Asian faculties stand out which gave universities very big pressure. And they actually got pay benefits and recognization of injustice behaviors.
