Reflection of Coronavirus
As a student who comes from China, I understand how the virus affects our lives. China began work stoppages as early as the end of January, and except for those people in essential jobs, everyone has been ordered to stay at home in order to control the spread of the disease. Under the influence of the national government and various media, the cities in China all became empty after the Spring Festival. Everyone has a high awareness of precautions, such as wearing a mask when going out and washing their hands after going home, because this information is broadcast on all the major media platforms and on TV every day to remind people of all ages to protect themselves and others.
Under such control, the outbreak in China has been fairly well contained, while recently, the United States began to have an outbreak of the virus. I believe this is a battle between all the humans and viruses, however, there were some unfriendly voices in this special time. According to recent news from CNN, “In New York City, a man assaults a woman wearing a face mask, calling her a "diseased b****." (Yan et al., 2020). I was shocked by hearing so many similar news. Many Asians wearing masks are considered to be sick and discriminated against by others. I think that a lot of Asians wear masks because their governments’ regulations have made them more aware of it, and it is just the same as the United States government’s regulation, to keep social distance with others, which is all for controlling the spread of the Coronavirus.
In such a special time, I believe people all over the world are one, we should face the virus together, instead of discriminating against each other.
My question is how should Asians face such discrimination?
