Xinyu Lyu, A02, Week 2

In my opinion, the article ‘Taking Action: Asian American Faculty against Injustices in the Academy” gave me the deepest impression is the phrase "rough mainstream culture, Asian Americans are stereotyped as hard workers, high achievers, and economically successful." Last year, when I was taking a writing class, I had to write a research paper on the academic difficulties of Chinese students. The reason why I chose this topic at that time was that when I looked up relevant materials, I found that few articles mentioned the difficulties encountered by Chinese students. I think it's probably because of the stereotype of Chinese students, Asian students, that they're good at math, they're good at studying, so they don't have any difficulty. However, this may be because China attaches great importance to basic education, so many international students have a good foundation in mathematics, but for some Asians who grew up in the United States and received American education, they are on the same starting line as white students.

At the same time, looking back at my paper, I found that I also had some stereotypes in my writing. For example, I defined Chinese students as introverted and not fond of expressing opinions.
This is my research https://drive.google.com/open?id=1CyIopP-XqVQ446Vppjv3x5w4EFijF-nDBG314HYYMH4. Although it is not about the research on stereotypes of Asian students, the selection of this topic is related to this.
After I reviewed my research, I found that a lot of times we don't realize we're being influenced by stereotypes, so how do we avoid them?
