Week 4 Blog Huiling Chen ASA002 A01
In this week's reading, it is kind of confirming the inequality that happened in the world. Reading this book, I acknowledged
that academia is so dark inside. It is really heartbreaking to read the
data. Bearing the stereotype label on Asian American women like hardworking. They
are expected to work much harder than other groups while cannot get the same
return. Their efforts seem to be worthless to the system because of the racism to
Asian Americans and the sexism to female. In the reading, it mentioned that 92%
white male junior faulty awarded tenure while only 55% percent of female
minority junior faculty awarded it; 74.4% of Asian American women in the
research suffer from physical or mental health problems from the workplace. The results do not correspond to their effort. These people are rated “unqualified” even
when they start. The laws say everyone should be treated equally. That is because
inequality happens everywhere and need the regulation to enforce it. But it will
never be fully enforced in every corner of the world. Some for the college
admission. The case from Harvard a few years ago talked about the bias towards
Asian Americans during the admission process. This is really unfair and needs
people to speak up for that.
Question:
How are the stereotypes of Asian American women
form?
