ASA002 A04 Yun Han Week4

In one of this week's reading "Investigating Discrimination: Injustice Against Women of Color in the Academy," the authors spend a whole chapter to study how the race influences hiring and promotion in the U.S. academy. The authors mainly use the methodology of data collection and analysis to do deep research. The research samples are from the University of South California. The data results show that the relationship between race and being rewarded tenure during this time is statistically significant at o.o17. This study proves the statement that color and Asian American women face discrimination in hiring and promotion.

The situation mentioned in the book reminds me of some concepts I learned in the psychology class. Sometimes people unintentionally have some specific stereotype towards people of different genders and races. For example, the firefight is thought of as a man's job while nursing is thought of as a woman's job. When this phenomenon is common, some bias exists in the workplace. It is difficult for people to get equal chances.
