Starting with the prologue of the book “Fight the Tower”, I got to know a bit of the background of Asian American history. Before this reading, I did not realize how much Asian Americans had been through in the past few decades. It mainly talked about that people treat Asian Americans as foreigners which leads to unfair actions. There was an example in the very front part of the prologue, I was shocked that that the children of Asian Americans who were born in the US were not allowed to attend the public schools. And later the author also discussed about that Asians or Asian Americans were being seen as a minority model, and was being expected to have a better performance which exceeds the standard. The author gave some examples in schools and workplaces. It makes me remember those times when I apply to college. My instructor told me it was very common that the admission office usually expect Asians to have a higher grade when comparing with other applicants, which means we need to have a better grade to be treated as a same level with others; because people have a stereotypes that all Asians are good at doing tests. I remember a joke I saw long time ago:Asians can’t get a B grade, because they are A-sianLater the author also introduced the hierarchy gap between woman and man, and it shows that an Asian American woman is really in a disadvantage. I am curious about the history, how these gaps and unfair treatments were being established at the very beginning?
