Qiuyue Li, A04, Week 2

The number of people infected coronavirus increases incredibly, and nobody knows when the infected rate will slow down. This graph shows the trend directly.

Coronavirus has been a world-wide healthy emergency. However, at the very beginning of the outbreak in US., because coronavirus was outbreak in Wuhan, China first, many people thought Asian might carry virus. Thus, there were some kind of discriminations towards Asian. However, it was difficult for Asian to make voices or have acts to correct people’s wrong perspectives. When the coronavirus was becoming a grave risk, these people began to treat it seriously and gradually remove the bias on Asian. Actually, Asian always “is perceived as easy targets for discrimination and dismissal based on these assumptions” (Valverde, 2013). Hune introduced the bias displayed in academic files; however, bias to Asian is in everywhere. Asian has a lot of blocks to get a promotion in academic field, but in fact, inequality phenomena happen in many fields. The case of this time’s coronavirus is an apparent and typical example. It is easy to meet inequalities, but it is difficult to build a positive image. In this coronavirus, Asian in fact has very strong sense of self-protection. Self-protection will be helpful to slow down the infected rate and will indirectly contribute to control the spread of coronavirus.
