Whether Only Women Should Protect Women
Witnessing the recent news about four years of sexual abuse
the adopted daughter by adult executives and the narrative of a law firm
dedicated to providing legal aid for women defending the victims in this case. Similarly,
before reading Fight the Tower, the introduction mentioned: "Fight
the Tower shows that Asian American women stand up for their rights and
work for positive change for all within academic institutions." Then I
looked up the background about the authors: Wei Ming Dariotis and Kieu-Linh
Caroline Valverde, female professors from the San Francisco State University and
the University of California, Davis. As I surmise, the authors of this book are
women, like the celebrities who spoke for women: Emma Watson, Nicole Kidman,
Alan Peggy, and other females. I couldn't help thinking about "whether
only women should protect women?"
(Is #MeToo a Movement or a Moment, 2018)
When we want to solve the issue of discrimination against a
group of people, it is not enough just the action of this group of people.
Discrimination comes from others, so people outside the group should be
responsible for it. For example, the popular #METOO movement, an activity for
the LGBTQ group to voice, a few years ago. In this event, people fight for the
rights of the LGBTQ group. It is not only people from the LGBTQ group but also
people from all fields who participate in the speech. When it comes to
protecting women, it's not just women who should act, it's all people,
including men. Men should be educated to respect women, and men should also
support activities that are reasonable for women's rights. Protecting women is
not only the responsibility of women but also the responsibility of everyone.
Question: Do men consider it is reasonable to obtain rights for women?
