In “The Time to Fight is Now: Asian American Women, Academia’s Socially ‘Engineered Privileged Oppressed,’ Go Rogue,” Kieu Linh Caroline Valverde and Wei Ming Dariotis used multiple examples to illustrate what is “Privileged Oppressed”, which from my perspective is that Asian Americans especially Asian American Women faced many injustice in academia. Actually when I finished the reading, I felt that the “Social Engineering” was harmed by the “Privileged Oppressed”. In my opinion, “Social Engineering” is aimed to make the society more efficient and better. However, in American society, some white people think that they are higher than other races and they are supposed to dominant the whole society working. White people are the majority in American society, so they have more weight. However it is not a convenience for people to oppress anyone or any race. Moreover, the author stated that “Asian Americans are the best representatives of diversity because that they have exotic face but stay silent.”
As an Asian, I admit that we get used to be silent. Even when we face some injustice or unfair treatment, we often choose to ignore or forgive them. However, it is not a personal or unconscious thing. This is discrimination and it has existed for decades. Maybe we are minority, but we are still part of the society. We should stand together and fight for our own rights. Actually we do not fight for ourselves, We also fight for a more efficient society which people can get their match position.
