Jiazhi Xu A04, Week 2

After read the 'Prologue' in the  ‘Fight the Tower', I'm touched by the efforts that the asian american pioneers had made, and I learnt how asian american had suffered from discrimination and racism for almost 100 years. Suffering the unfairness from whole society, asian american pioneers made progress step by step to attain their rights in education. After reading the chapter, I've also learnt about the history of asian american, about how they came to U.S for living.
I also found the stereotype that asian are hard-worker, highly income and highly educated is still exist, and this allow me to think about the origin of stereotype. As Shirley wrote in the book, stereotype put individuals into same box without understanding each person. This is 'easy' but disrespectful for races, genders, occupations and countries. Also, in U.S, a country we consider highly cultural diversity, the stereotypes to every minorities are sometimes badly influencing individuals' daily lives, which is paradoxic. Also, there are some people also use the stereotype to skirt their disadvantages. Onse I had a bad Uber experience, the Uber driver said I was impolite since I forgot to introduce myself to the her, but I apologize afterward. However, she kept saying:' You may think you can be rude to an Uber driver since you have a computer science degree.' Making me speechless and offensive, I got off the car immediately and reported the driver. I don't know why and how the people like her became like this, and this is also the question I want to raise to discuss.
