Chiyuan Zhang ASA002 A01 WEEK2

After reading our assignment "Taking Action: Asian American Faculty against injustice in Academy", I learn more about the Asian American's history. Although America is a country of immigrants and has many different races, Asian Americans are still not accepted as Americans. Normally, Asian Americans have their own places. For example, in San Francisco or other big cities, Chinese Americans have their own China town, which has many Chinese restaurants, Chinese supermarkets
and so on. Most Chinese Americans live in China town. In the same way, Japanese Americans have their own Japanese town. Asian American as a different group in America, their culture and thought are really different from others. Like reading mentions: "Asian Americans are historically disadvantaged racial minority group. The discrimination that they face in education has a long and ugly history grounded in racism and xenophobia. Their educational environment has been consistently inhospitable, oftentimes hostile, and in stark contrast to the common belief that Asian Americans are somewhat advantaged in education sphere." Asian education pays attention to the test and homework. Most Asians are shy to interact with teachers. However, American education cares about discussion and interactions with teachers. It is true that two kinds of educations are different, but you can't use this stereotype to describe all Asian education. I am pretty annoyed that when some Americans knows I come from China, they will believe that my math is very good. In fact, my math is bad. Today, Asian Americans are still fighting with unfair bias and stereotype, and they have courage to face discriminations and cheer up again. Like reading states: "We work tirelessly to mobilize and consolidate our power and resources to advance our individual and collective struggles to fight."

Question: When Asian Americans are discriminated, how do they fight back correctly?
