In Valverde’s article “The Time to Fight
is Now”, I understand a new terminology of “social engineering”. For me
perspective, Professor Valverde introduces this idea to explain the phenomenon of
social functioning. We are living in a huge society that needs different government
and community to work together to make sure this “machine” work well. Unavoidably, education
is a noticeable concept in “social engineering”. In the United State, as like
the broad society, there are discrimination. Asian American, particularly, women
are in desperate situation that they are not excluded from being entering higher
academic system. All the wealth and power are control and occupied by white people
so that Asian American women were oppressed. Typical example can be addressed
from college applications.
The Ivy’s give the major academic position
for student whose have wealth and power to maintain their university pride. I felt
uncomfortable reading this article because the Unite State is not supposed to
have such discrimination in academic area. People here are ought to have equal opportunity
to have the academic source their deserve based on their effort beyond money
and power.
Question: Do the American accept the idea that top schools only accept wealthy
and high statue students?
