In the reading "Asian American Faculty against Injustices in the Academy", the author Shirley Hune discusses the problem of injustices Asian American people face. She mentions the stereotype regarding Asian American people. "Through mainstream culture, Asian Americans are stereotyped as hard workers, high achievers, and economically successful—a model minority group that, in this view, no longer encounters the racial discrimination of the past.", written by Shirley Hune in her article. This kind of stereotype makes society think Asian Americans can reach sufficient educational resources. However, the fact is the opposite. The author also mentions the difficulty for an Asian American middle-class family to fight for the educational right for their daughter. Although they won the right to attend the public school, the government officials and school board established the Chinese school to implement racial separation.
"They are good at math", "They don't afraid of the exam at all", "How could he get a "B"? He is Asian." These are the comments I heard before in my daily life. I think this kind of stereotype should be stopped. Asians would not become "Bsian" when they receive "B" level grade for the exam. Moreover, a lot of people think Asian people are hard workers and we can do the works assigned to us. The underlying meaning is that Asians are not creative at all. Asians are regarded as a lack of creativity and personality. According to the article, "Harvard Rated Asian-American Applicants Lower on Personality Traits, Suit Says", Anemona Hartocollis writes, "Harvard consistently rated Asian-American applicants lower than others on traits like “positive personality,” likability, courage, kindness and being “widely respected,” according to an analysis of more than 160,000 student records filed Friday by a group representing Asian-American students in a lawsuit against the university." Harvard university is one of the best universities in the U.S. It is pathetic and hard to trust an excellent university like this judged Asian students with the stereotype. Question: Is the stereotype a psychological problem? Or it is the lack of knowledge of the fact.
