Why does Discrimination continue today?

In response to “Asian Pacific Americans’ Social Movements and Interest Groups” by Kim Geron

Supporters rallying to keep International Hotel, 1968.

Over the school years, we had seen and heard a lot about racial discrimination throughout US history. What was surprising was the vast amount of discrimination towards Asian Pacific Americans that were not spoken nor heard of. Most people don’t think about the struggles each ethnic group had to overcome in order to be treated fairly. This article talked about the various Asian communities and the idea of panethnicity. It is interesting to read that Asian Pacific Americans fought back discrimination, hate crimes, and segregation through political, economic, and communal actions. Because of these discriminatory activities, different ethnic groups had come together to jointly defend their identity and community. One interesting instance was the campaign in 1968 to preserve the International Hotel. This campaign brought together not only people of ethnic groups, it also brought community supporters, LGBT activists, trade unions, and various progressive groups.
There were plenty more instances where discrimination brought together many groups of people. However, there still seemed to be a lot of discrimination today. The article also mentioned the use of modern resources to dissolve racial discrimination, but then, why are people of 21st century still caught up in ethnic discrimination?
