The UC Berkeley 1964 protest, an Instance of Change

Response to "Berkeley Free Speech Movement: Paving the way for the campus activism" by Robby Cohen

Cohen wrote about the largest and longest college protest that occurred at Berkeley known as the Free Speech Movement. The students were trying to gain campus support for the civil rights movement. 800 were arrested in the protest, which I find to be extremely large. There were also 600 officers, which is an incredible amount of peacekeepers. What did the police do to these 800 people? Did they write them up and just let them go? I wonder what police today think of college protestors. Many of us know what happened at UC Davis during the Occupy Wall Street protest. Do officers think that the students are threats or acting childish? In the end, UC Berkeley managed to reach a good agreement. What I liked most about this article was the realization about how youth can gain the confidence to make substantial political changes.
