Immigration from Asia

Andy Wang
Section A02
In Response to "Making and Remaking Asian Pacific American Immigration Policy" by Bill Ong Hing

My parents took advantage of the immigration policy and arrived to America in the late 1980s through the family reunification category. And over the years more and more of my family members from China has immigrated to the United States. They came to the United States because of the job opportunities that are available here, and my family came from a poor farming countryside and never agreed with the communistic policy of China. Life there was hard and they decided to leave. Others have fled their countries because war and oppression. I am glad that I was able to be born in America and be given the opportunity.

As more and more immigrants come to the United States from various countries, are they coming here because of job opportunities or escaping their country because of war? As Asia continues to grow and begin to rival the US economy will Asian stop immigrating and will other people from different countries replace the Asian immigration?
