Yuan Zuo A04 Week1

The first confirmed case of virus was reported in Wuhan at the beginning of this year 2020. This is a new type of virus we did not face before. As time goes by, more and more cases were reported in different provinces in China. There is no solution to cure this virus so far, but China did a good job to control and stop the spread of this virus. The government blocked Wuhan City quickly and provided effective medical help for infected people. With the help with lots of construction companies and volunteers, Chinese government built a hospital over 10 days. The workers did not even spend their lunar new year with their families. When I saw news from China here in Davis, I was kind of moved by everything happened in my country that lots of kind people contributed their efforts to fight against the virus.

After reading Professor Valverde's article Fight the Tower: A Call to Action for
Women of Color in Academia, I saw how she defended for women of color in the academe. This reminds to think about what president Trump said in last two weeks.  President Trump defended his increasingly frequent practice of calling the coronavirus the “Chinese Virus,” ignoring a growing chorus of criticism that it is racist and anti-Chinese (nytimes). I know this term is kind of political, but I think what Trump needs to do now is working on how to control the spread of COVID-19 instead of telling American people everything is good. Things are getting worse now, especially in NYC. In my personal opinion, for President Trump, maybe helping people to get effective medical treatments and advocating right methods of preventing the virus is more convincing than blaming China.

Q: Was the slump in stock market related to Coronavirus?

Since the beginning of the outbreak, President Trump and high-ranking administration officials have sought to pinpoint blame for the spread of the virus on China.
