Chinese people began to take the coronavirus crisis seriously in mid-January, which is almost the time we started our winter quarter. Out of an urge to relieve anxiety, I kept sharing some information about the current situation in China in response to COVID-19 every week with one of TA, who is a white American. He was willing to communicate with me and got more information about China; he responded to me actively and cared about the health of my family members in China. Even though I have repeatedly mentioned him the concerns about the possibility of the virus outbreak in the United States, he always expressed sympathy from the perspective of a bystander, as if this thing never happened to him.  Although he saw some signs, he wasn’t aware of that the coronavirus is not an issue for Chinese people but for all human beings.
It wasn’t only him; many Americans were in a condition that “Yeah, I know the seriousness in China, but coronavirus crisis will not break out in the US.” Even Pentagon received a warning from the National Center for Medical Intelligence on COVID last November, but they still didn’t take it seriously until things got out of control. I can recall that Donald Trump said to the country that “We have it totally under control […] It’s going to be just fine.” in January (Margolin & Meek, 2020). I would like to say what is more terrible than the crisis is that the crisis has occurred, and everyone is not aware of the crisis. It is horrible to have the idea of “it could not happen on me.” And here I have a question that have you ever thought about the possibility of coronavirus outbreak in the United States?

This is an issue not only for this coronavirus but for many situations in our lives. I didn’t know racial discrimination and sexism are so severe among university faculties because I didn’t have access to such information about professors before, but a group of people in the education system should know. Too few of them voice for such injustice. Maybe they think “I’m a white” or “I’m a male,” so such an issue would matter me, but they don’t aware that once the rules start to collapse, and once the system begins to become unfair, everyone can be a victim. This time it’s black or Asian American. Who will be mistreated for the next time for what reason? Corruption in the education system will eventually fall on the heads of every system. The corruption of the education system will ultimately fall on everyone in the system
