Before reading this
article I didn’t know that Asian women are oppressed so hardly in the academia.
Some people may say: “Hey, I have some professors who are Asian American
women!”. However, as the reading points out: “Never tell me the odds!”. The
statistics tells the truth – “Asian American women are tenured and promoted16
at a rate of 40 percent of those who apply for tenure and promotion, while
white men are tenured and promoted at a rate of 92 percent.”, which is a cruel
but real situation. I can’t help relate this reading to the number of female Associate
Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. In spite of all these years
of fighting, there are still only three females at this position. I am so
touched by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second female who won this honor in the
history, she said: “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made.
It shouldn't be that women are the exception.”. If we women want fair
treatment and want to fight for our own rights, we should never count on other
people to help us but stand out ourselves. After all, we can’t change the truth
that similarity causes empathy. If we don’t speak out our thoughts, needs and
requirements, how can others get to know our minds?
Question: How to
reply to the people who claim the women who are fighting for their rights are stimulating
the war between different genders?
