Takami Yamamoto ASA2 A02 Week 3

In this week's reading, I learned a new term "social engineering." "Social engineering" refers to the attempt to modify and regulate the development of society. I think University is definitely where social engineering can happen. It can firstly start with the admission of what kind of people the university is offering higher education to. Then once these people graduates, they will be the ones that have higher social status and more power to shape the society from governments, large business, media, hospital, and schools.
I also kept thinking about the fact that Asian Americans are considered "model minority" makes us harder to thrive during "social engineering." Asian Americans are"model minority" because we between groups like African Americans who are not privileged at all and white Americans who are much more privileged. People tend to think we all have wealth and little problems in life. And during "social engineering, " the ones in control will give privilege to people who are at both ends to make themselves look "fair." And as "model minorities," Asian Americans will be ignored because we are considered neither high or low on the ladder of social status.

Question: Have you ever been placed after both white Americans and African Americans for anything? (like a job offer or anything that involves choosing candidates.) How was your experience like and how did you feel?
