Week4
After finishing this week’s reading, “‘That’s No Moon!’: Attack of the Institution ‘Fear Is the Path to the Dark Side’”, Valverde (2019) describes the experience of her friend and colleague – Soek Fang Sim. Soek Fang Sim is a scholar who taught international studies in the art college and she experiences rumor in her career which had a largely bad influence on her. Valverde (2019) feel shame and regret that she did not stand up and support her colleague at that time.
I saw the sentences in this part of reading, “We, as women, as women of color, as immigrant women of color, as immigrant women of color in academia, would never be good enough in their eyes, no matter what achievements we have made.” And “NOT GOOD ENOUGH is stamped all over our bodies and souls in red, black, yellow, and brown ink.” These sentences made me feel unreasonable about the current situation of colored people in academia. Just like the chapters I read in the previous 3 weeks, this one also talks about the color people have been treat unfairly. I support people to fight back and get our rights. Because I think if we do nothing, we cannot get anything unless we try to.
Question: For the fight of the color people which they want their rights, do you think it is worth to put the effort into this fight even it has the possibility of color people do not win at all?
