Sitian Zhang ASA002 A01 Week 4

This week, the reading introduced us to the glass ceiling for Asian American women in career life which illustrates that Asian American women are getting unequal treatment for promotion. Even though they are fully capable of higher position, the glass ceiling or bamboo ceiling hinder the way. More importantly, many Asian American people start believing that they cannot do this. This situation is happening every day in the United States.

When I was looking for internships in the United States, I heard thousands of times people saying most companies prefer local students while International students especially Chinese are not on their target list. It's definitely harder to find an apt internship for international students despite the process of OPT or SSN thing. It's not only like stereotyping but like thoughts inserted in any Asian people's heads in the United States. Regardless of how well I can do, the glass ceiling is always there. Why should I work so hard then? This kind of negative feelings might emerge in Asian American women's thoughts.

It's difficult to erase this kind of ceiling and thoughts indeed in people's heads. There's still a long way to go to fight for equal rights.
Q: How long it might take to improve this situation?
