When I read the poem "Waking" by W.P., I was moved by the words and by the narrative behind the piece. I can't even imagine the pain this author had to go through during her/his lawsuit with the college. They spent so much of their time cultivating personal relationships with their colleagues, just to have everyone treat them like a ghost, a nobody. They contributed all their work, time, and energy into designing classes and obtaining grants, and in return they were shunned and kicked off of a presentation. These injustices happen everyday in the academic setting and in other settings as well. People are not treated as humans, and instead are treated just like how the mouse was treated. In this world, it's all about climbing the ladder and not looking back. People climb the ladder and step on others in order to gain power and influence. It is a very corrupt system, but that is just the world we live in. It is even worse for Asian American women because along with all of that, we have to deal with racial and sexual stereotypes that hinder our image in the work place. The question I would like to ask is: Why do we have strict ethical and moral rules when working with animals but none for the workplace?
