ASA A04
Week 3
After reading this week article named "The Time to Fight is Now": Asian American Women, Academia's socially Engineered "Privileged Oppressed," Go Rogue, I learnt that higher education still oppress the Asian Americans especially Asian American women scholars, they have already been oppressed by the society for many years. According to the article, it claims that Asian American women scholars perceived as advantaged but actually positioned to be disposable. It's hard for people to realize the how unequal treatment that they suffer and how hard they want to change the academia.
The academia should be a place that full of freedom and allow people come from different races, sexes, backgrounds to express their opinions. However, it became the place that special groups of people used power to suppress dissent and protected their benefits. It can be seen as a form of violence to Asian American women scholars, which would destroy both their physical and mental health. The phenomenon in academia forced them to leave or fought for the changes. I didn't believe university administrators put Asians American women scholars in a high level of academic as they explained . Instead of this, they made Asians American women as a tool to show that they treated everyone equally. However, the truth is that women just show up and shut up. According to the Declaration of Independence, "all men are created equal." I believe it should be women as well. Academia don't have reason to put pressure and discriminate to the Asian American women scholars who are fight for their rights and property.
Question: How to change the situation in academia of Asian American women scholars and what things can we do to help them?
