After I read the poem of Wang Ping, Who Killed Soek-
Fang Sim, I felt very heavy. This poem looks simple but full of the serious
situation of the nation and race discrimination happened in many countries
especially the US nowadays.
The poem is talking about the scholar in society
which Asian woman was treated unequal. With so much of endeavor but earn less
reward in the scholar field. The author feels so angry and indignation about
this situation. Soek-Fang is an Asian woman, and her encounter with such
unequal treatment in daily life is really mad to any reader.
It would lead to further thinking as to why this
situation would happen so often in the US? In my opinion, due to the formation
of the United States, there are many different kinds of races of people. And
white people are dominated at the beginning and stay on the crucial position in
the formation of the society. Asian are mainly come for as the bottom labor.
And due to the weakness during the World War I, Asians have suffered
discrimination. Although this bias has become less and better, there are still
some happened in the US. Like the coronavirus, many people would assume it as
the Chinese Virus.
I wish we could have a better society and people can
give less bias to the race because humans are a big family.
