Due to the coronavirus that is happening at this time, many Asian American’s have been facing a bigger issue with racism and discrimination. In Professor Valverde’s “Fight the Tower,” she briefly mentions the feeling of being alone and isolated due to these kinds of attacks. We see people recording these violent incidents and attacks rather than helping or calling out for help. Why is it that people go towards social media when these sad and disturbing events occur? We are currently living in a world where we should all be supporting one another rather than putting blame on a whole community. Because of the media, people are in panic and seem to believe everything the media puts out there. This creates a sense of anxiety for the Asian American community. After reading Shirley Hune’s piece from “Fight the Tower,” she reminds us about the history Asian American’s went through against racism and discrimination, especially in higher education. This question I want to ask is how do we continue to fight against discrimination and racism during this time of a worldwide pandemic?
