Jason Indarto - Week 3 - ss1

This week's reading has enlightened me about the general discrimination of Asians in the US. Takeyama's reading mentions how she was being discriminated in the professional workplace. I would assume that Asian American's would be treated more fairly in more professional setting (such as in Takeyama's scholar setting) but I didn't know it would also occur that badly. In academic settings, institutions would hire internationally as a form of internationalization to broaden diversity in the workplace but I was also surprised to hear that it was just some means to exploit these international workers. Regardless of skill and education, international workers are being mistreated just because of the barriers that they face (for example language barrier and racism are a big one).  It would seem as if hiring a diverse set of individuals were just some check list that institutions must meet in order to say that they are a diverse industry.
Q: why do institutions hire international workers if they don't treat them well?
