Andrew Stephanus Week 5 SS1

the reading that  i chose to be my topic was called, "Mother is Liberation". The essay talks about the journey and experiences that a women Asian American professors feel. One of the main thing about being full tenured professors is that you have to be able to constantly produce good work and publish something. You would have to serve the community you are in by taking up a leadership position on your campus in order to do well with your work. These expectations and hopes really hurts faculty members relationship with their daughter and sons as they spend less time with them in order to become a better professor. There is this stereotype that thinks that being a a great professors means that you are a bad parent and vice versa. Being both a good parents and also a great professor was a myth. The problem was, what people dont realize is that even without giving birth to a baby. Most Asian American woman in academia has already taken up that mothership role for their students. which is why we should appreciate Asian American women in academia more for their care work and support for their own students and their own family. We need to understand their situation before we could do something about it in the future. The picture I tagged below is an example of something we could participate in to better understand these heroes in our community.
