Amay Kharbanda Week 2 S2

Reading W.P.’s poem “Who Killed Soek-Fang Sim?, ” I felt an even powerful message than from her last poem. The tone of this poem travels from anguished and regretful to a hopeful and spirited one. It draws a parallel between her troubles and Soek-Fang Sim’s story. She feels they both have been through the same tough ordeal. They were both discriminated against their race and judged for their incompetence in the English language despite being distinguished and innovative teachers. They were neglected for their poor financial situations.
Furthermore, Ms. Ping feels deeply saddened by the death of someone she looked up to (Soek-Fang Sim). She also blames herself for accepting all the labels that were thrust on her. She regrets not fighting for herself and accepting a low salary even though she was deserving of a higher one. But she does not want to back down and be broken like Ms. Sim. She wishes to fight against the system and stand up for herself and Ms. Sim. She wants to carry on her legacy and make an impact on society.
This poem ends on a good note. I feel proud that Ms. Ping took the courageous step of having her voice heard and spread a positive message to everyone.
