Bianca Taruna, Week 4, SS1

In week 4's reading, I find Dariotis Yoo's article "Care Work" to be very interesting. She does not only speak about the perspective as a teacher but also what we as a student experiences on a daily basis. She mentioned how some students are emotionally wounded and could not properly digest the materials that are being taught in class. Hence, requiring teachers to help them not only with subject matters but emotionally. I could somehow relate this to WP's article titled "She Shall Not Be Moved." I think that if the teachers are experiencing similar emotional problems like WP, how are they supposed to help and guide their students on the right path? Although, I do find some perks of being an Asian American through Yoo's article. It was said that students find it more comfortable and safe to approach Asian American teachers. If this is true, my best guess is that this might be the only reason why Asian American women or probably WP still choose to work in academia despite how poorly they have all been treated.
This week's theme is about "Do or Do Not. There Is No Try" what I could infer from it is that you could only have two choices. To either do it or do not do it. This applies to both readings since Asian American who works in academia, they have no other choice. It is their passion to teach and they need to support their living through that. That said, they only have the choice to either do it or not do it.

Question: Is there any counseling services for teachers provided at school? or is it just available for students?
