Section 002
A subject of this week's readings was about the safety of Wi-Fi and whether or not it belongs in our schools. A major component of the Spero article is that Wi-Fi can have negative effects on people and this information grows increasingly pertinent as the internet continues to be incorporated in our day to day lives. This reminds me a little bit of the articles we read about the corporation of the university and how studies were being hidden from the public as a means of controlling public opinion. This makes me think about just how necessary Wi-Fi is to an elementary school. After all, this could just be used as an excuse to increase the amount of money requested by those in power by claiming they need it to maintain the Wi-Fi, but in reality they choose to pocket the money, as seen in the other articles. Naturally, this raises some concerns in me about the growing influence corporations have on America, as companies continue to attempt profiteering at the expense of the general well-being of other human beings. Keeping these risks out of the view of people relates back to how academia tends to honor itself with prestige and remains desperate to keep face. Attaching bells and whistles to education and risking the health of young children is reckless and irresponsible, and as a result actions must be taken to mitigate these factors.
Question: How could we move away from these dangerous trends, yet continue to incorporate technology as part of our education?
