Week 9 Kalani Murakami - A02

Kalani Murakami
Section A02
Week 9: Solidarity Movements

In Building a Culture of Solidarity: Racial Discourse, Black Lives Matter, and Indigenous Social Justice by Santos F. Ramos, first gives a first person view on the incident. The key thing about this is first person view is the hands of the people that they were holding and the people that they were with. It didn't mention race or anything about whos hands they were holding which transitions to the next part of the article. The article then talks about the use of hashtags as a way to show how singular a event can be when using a specific race hashtag like "latinolivesmatter" when multiple races were part of the movement. This goes back to the title "solidarity" which shows that each race is using there own unique hashtag to identify themselves in the incident creating a block between races. Let it be known that the use of hashtags is just one case in this article and not to be taken as a joke.

This article also builds off of Why Ferguson Matters of Asian Americans. As we are talking about Solidarity, the article talks about how asians are in the middle of the spectrum of whites and blacks and not really having a side according to society. It gives us a view of where do we stand in society and this spectrum of treatment leaves us in solidarity. The division that blacks and white gives as they are on the extreme sides of the spectrum exemplify them and there problems are 'justices' and leaves asians on the outside.

My questions would be 'Where does each race view themselves in the spectrum'? 'How do we show all sides of the spectrum and collaborate?

I don't know why the image is not appearing why I copy and paste the image in, but here is the link. I just want to point the picture doesn't really matter, but when you google search 'asian lives matter' and look for images, you see more #blacklivesmatter then asian lives matter showing that we culd be 'nonexistent' as shown in the article and shows where do we stand in all of this.
