In “Why Ferguson Matters to Asian Americans”, the author Soya Jung extends the discussion of Mike Brown’s death caused by a Ferguson police officer in 2014 and further explains how it matters to Asian Americans. Although this incident seems to only involve the conflicts between Black and White people, the meaning of it causes much more impacts, since it is an aftermath of white supremacy around the whole country. When the US is moving towards two sides, one side is white and another is black, Asian Americans are standing in the middle and we must find our position. Having incident like the murder of Mike Brown is a deadlock between the black and the white, but also means the problems of racism inequality, which affects Asian Americans simultaneously. Therefore, Asian Americans should be aware of this issue and speak out problems. In “Building a Culture of Solidarity: Racial Discourse, Black Lives Matter, and Indigenous Social Justice”, it talks about the low participation rate of Asians on Black Lives Matter. I remembered when I first saw the sign of “Black Lives Matter” during my freshman year, I asked my Asian friends what that meant and they replied me that this was none of our business. As an international Asian student, I feel like we always neglect issues that do not directly affect us. Hence, after reading these materials, I feel like we  should be more active and fight for rights and equality, not just for ourselves but the whole community. If we do not do so, we will also be the victims one day.

The question I have for this week is how to make more young people be aware of the problems happening in different ethnicity groups?
