Week 9

Alex Truong
Section 2

In "Why Ferguson Matters to Asian Americans" by Soya Jung she begins the article with introducing the incident regarding the murder of Mike Brown in Ferguson. She also then questions whether this incident is significant and if it matters to Asian Americans. In addition to this she talks about the roots of different rages that these communities has. In this, she understands the need to protect and express the rage that is apart of their identities.

The second half of the article she talks about how the deaths of Asian Americans are practically invisible because they never gain attention due to the fact that it has no value. This is a problem in my opinion because the fact that someone's death does not fall in line with model minority it is shielded from the public. News pertaining to Asian Americans is nonexistent, and almost impossible to be found in the mainstream media. Jung also brings about the fact that Asian Americans are seen as other, they are between the lines of blackness and whiteness.  Thus causing Asian Americans to be invisible and deemed unimportant.

What can we do to change this invisibility among Asian Americans?
