In Mark Tseng Putterman’s article, “What Asian Americans Are Bringing to Campus Movements for Racial Justice,” he brings up a lot of issues and discussion topics that are relevant to today’s Asian American student population. With the rise of racial justice, there comes into question the amount of support and solidarity one can provide for the cause. As Asian American students, we often overlook the privilege we have in a country that has perpetuated antiblackness more throughout its hxstory. We also must reflect upon our placement in these movements and what we can provide. In the article it is discussed that our efforts as Asian Americans in these movements often reflect the impulsive ignorance in our actions. These actions in mobilization are ultimately to form a sense of coalition, but overall reflect unintended moments of antiblackness. To give support in these movements we must know that support must be given to the most reasonable extent in order to be successful in what we push to enact.
I think that the article brings up good points. Analyzing, I can see that the Asian American community can be a bit overlooked in the POC (people of color) identity as well as overlook their placement in these movements performing actions of antiblackness in the process. I think that as community organizers we must know when to step down and step up in these movements. The only way to support these movements is to correct ourselves in our digressive actions toward these events toward racial justice. Understanding how these actions reflect antiblackness are also important too. I feel that students have access to so much knowledge, but it is up to us to utilize the information and want to understand the wrongs we perform and implement the type of support to guarantee progress in the war against racial injustice as well as antiblackness

Reflection Question: What can you do as an advocate of racial justice to support movements without perpetuating antiblackness and overstepping boundaries?
