In the piece of "pathologizing-everday-life", it describes how medicalization is not just a positive term. While increasing/broadening the concept of new diseases, many companies are selling and marketing new treatments. This makes me wonder if the medical world is really corrupted by the big companies that sell drugs for "treatment". This piece also claims that some individuals with mental illness diagnosis do not always need the treatment that is prescribed to them. Everybody experiences stress or discomfort, but it isn't always necessary to diagnosis and prescribe medicine to them for it. I think today, a lot of individuals self-diagnose themselves with illnesses that they think they have. I'm not trying to claim that those individuals are wrong, but in some cases people do this to use as an excuse to act a certain way. In my experience, people who have self-diagnosed them self are usually distraught about something and I respect that they can know themselves. However, I think that media has portrayed that any slight stress or discomfort should make you seek help. This is due to how big companies have profited off of people who fall into this trap of medication.
question: What are some ways that we can move towards this non-wifi movement? What are some things that can expose these companies who just want to profit off of other people's problems?
