In Brian Spero’s article, Is Wi-Fi in Schools Safe?: Putting EMF exposure on your radar of potential health risks, he talks about electromagnetic fields (EMF) that are emitted from Wi-Fi networks. EMF’s are not really thought of as a health risk in our educational system which is problematic. We as students pursue education to better ourselves and aside from struggling from poor grades and even mental stress we must also deal with health risks within our educational system as well.
While analyzing the article, I liked how Spero brought up an educational issue within our society regarding health because as Asian Americans or minorities we are only exposed to oppression and marginalization issues. I evaluated that his claim of this being a threatening situation to be very necessary because as students we could be putting our own health on the line at a whole different level from what we usually experience. This article relates to this week’s theme of Pathologizing of Asian Americans and the Americanization of Mental Illness and Harms to Humans because it gives a new perspective on how education can be mentally digressive than progressive due to what our system puts us through and how it impacts our minds. I found this article to be eye-opening and made me think twice about what is really happening to me while in school aside from the positive progress of learning. I also questioned how we as humans can truly appreciate our education when it does not completely benefit us as we lose a part of us in the process.

Question: What is an alternative to Wi-Fi that we can consider for our health benefit?
