In this week's reading, authors of the book conclude it with their thoughts about fighting against the injustice, and we finally meet the end of this quarter and the book, again I was so impressed by all the authors in the book who risk themselves to fight against the oppression. However, the situation is not optimistic. As the author says, "power that seeks to support itself over justice inevitably leads to oppression." (p. 423) Stereotypes offer the group a title "model minority" but indeed oppression. Asian Americans are not treated equally and are even discriminated in many workplaces, especially in academia. People with ability and qualification fail to apply for tenure due to unequal promotion distribution, while if they want to support itself over justice, the university will even deny their past efforts and future.
Even though we knew there are numerous obstacles existed in the pathway that leads to justice, we still need to fight against the tower. People are not only fighting for themselves, but also their friends, family, and the whole community of people of color. Dismantling corrupt systems within academia and society can lead to a brighter future. The motif of the book not only reveals how Asian Americans are facing the dark side of society but also calls for others to get a deeper understanding of Asian Americans so that they will show more respect and willingness to fight for justice. There are lots of things happened recently, the tragic accident of George Floyd reminds us that minority groups are still passing through heavy racism nowadays. I will recommend my friends and more people to read the book and help Asian Americans.
