Hanling Zhu ASA2 A02 week10

This is the last week for us to write the blog, and the book we read also comes to the end. For this week, I read the end portion of the book “Fight the Tower,” "Conclusion: Academics Awaken: Power, Resistance, and Being Woke."

After reading the whole book, I think the main point the author wants us to know is that everyone needs to stand up and speak out the unequal treatment loudly, which is especially true for the minority. Everyone should pursue an equal world. In this book, l learned how Asian American women fight for their equal treatment in academia and the obstructs they met. In spite of many difficulties and obstacles on their way to equality and right, they are still moving forward. The author argues that we need an environment that not cares about people’s gender and race. Only in this kind of environment, talented people can devote themselves to academia and they will not worry about whether they will be discriminated against because of their race and gender. Nowadays, there are still a lot of people working in an environment that is not friendly to Asian American women in academia. Thus, we need to stand up and speak loudly. Only in this way, the academic environment can become better and better in the future.

Question: how can we make the academic environment better faster?
