Frank Sang A04 Week9

From the reading of this week, I have read the article Academic Symbiosis: A Manifesto on Tenure and Promotion in Asian American Studies” by Wei Ming Dariotis, and it gives me a new idea about how to face the unfair treatment of education. The author introduces a term called academic symbiosis, and it allows people to consider education as a group of growing, not a single competition to others.

From my experience, I do have a similar sense of having someone who considers academic things as a competition, and they have to win. This kind of thought still makes sense in some ways, but as a student who has friends struggling in the academy, I could not agree on it. Education is the base of social development, so what we should expect from it is what it will bring to all the learners. If all learners are fighting with each other but not the problems we all have, then it will conflict with the original intention of education. Besides, I understand that the competition will always exist since there will always be number one or two in anything, but what should be changed is that the competition should be positive, and no matter who wins, everyone in the team should receive rewards and everyone should be happy with it.

Question: is the Final Elimination a good system?
