Feminist Pedagogy Isn't Enough to End Oppression in Academia ...
In the reading, "Epilogue. Upward and Onward: Asian American Women's Legal Resistance", the author Robyn Magalit Rodriguez mentions the experience of Sunera Thobani and talks about the significance of the ethnic study to academia. The author describes the struggle for ethnic studies as a turning point in American academia. I agree with this point. Since the struggle often leads the chain reactions which made scholars in other study fields start to struggle. The marginalized group of people like Asian American women is often oppressed in many ways in academia. According to the previous chapter of the book, I learned a lot about it from Asian American female professors. Moreover, this point is supported by the author when she mentions the opinion that the struggles for ethnic studies improve the development of equality across every field in academia including humanity and technology. Also, I agree with the author's opinion only people from marginalized groups can represent themselves. "Indeed, they insisted that only people from marginalized groups could adequately understand and represent their needs and desires.", the author said. I agree with this point since I believe it is difficult for spectators to feel the most real and direct feelings of people in the event. Only people who are experiencing oppression or experienced it can speak out what they really want to society.
Question: Can oppressed people combine social media and book to speak out for themselves?
