Jiaying Li ASA 002A Week 9

In the article titled “Academic Symbiosis: A Manifesto on Tenure and Promotion in Asian American Studies”, Wei Ming Dariotis argues that academic symbiosis means building a thoughtful, supportive academic community in which each of us brings what we can share to the dinner table, rather than competing for scarce resources (Dariotis, p. 386). I agree with this idea for which it can be said that the essence of a university is an academic community whose tradition, value, dignity, pursuit, and style are reflected in a unique academic culture. University on the academic culture shape should be the pursuit of three kinds of value orientation, and the different, symbiotic win-win, fairness and justice, to make the unification and harmony of ecological coil type, both to accommodate each other, interdependence, the mutual complement of symbiosis, and including the legitimate competition, elimination of inevitable and evolution, the only way to build is a dynamic and harmonious development of the academic community. In addition, it is also of great importance to set up a more just university system with fair and happy practice as the new academic norm (Dariotis, p. 398). To appreciate others, to support each other is a kind of ordinary scholar who can do one of the most ordinary noble.
