Yandong Zhang ASA2 A04 Week 9

In the article “Academic Symbiosis: A Manifesto on Tenure and Promotion in Asian American Studies” by Wei Ming Dariotis, it introduces a solution to end the situation of unfair treatment facing by Asian Americans in the academic profession. The method of academic symbiosis asks people to see themselves as part of a collective learning and teaching community rather than as individual academics competing against one another for limited resources and rare recognition. In the article, the author also suggests to build a stronger relationship within the community and help each other rise to the top. I strongly agree with this idea. People should work together and help each other out when they are minorities to fight against their enemies. This method is also applicable to the current situation. People have a huge misunderstanding of Asians during COVID-19. And we should work together to clarify and explain the truth to the public. In this way, we can eliminate the misunderstanding between Asians and others. Otherwise, resistance with hatred will only deepen the current misunderstanding, which is not what we are pursuing. We want peace, love, and respect.
