Sitian Zhang ASA002 a01 Week2

From the book, Fight the Tower: Asian American Women Scholar’s Resistance and Renewal in the Academy, the author illustrates the unjust workplace for Asian Americans in the United States. Many Asian Americans are getting lower paid salaries than other races who are in the same positions in a firm. Also, they are poorly to get the chance to get promotion in companies. This is unfair and many Asian Americans choose to endure this instead of standing out.

This reminds me of a real story happened to my host mother. She is Chinese and married her husband who is American. She refuses to change to her husband's last name after marriage even though it's American tradition to do this. My host mother believes that it's the way to keep her Chinese identity and show how proud she is to the homeland. However, not changing the last name made her lose many of the job opportunities. Many companies refuse her application only because of the first sight of her last name which is a typical Chinese last name. She complained to me about this and think kind of thing happen in America every day.

Therefore, I believe that Asian Americans should actively say no to this common negative even relating to racism cases. They should get the same amount of salaries as any other races in the workplace. Everyone should be equal in the world whether in school, workplace or life.

Question: Why would this kind of unjust situation happen in the workplace for Asian Americans?
