Shan Xu ASA002 A04 WEEK 5

“The Cost of Speaking” is written by W.P., which talks about an Asian women professor’s experience of discrimination in college. The professor is outstanding and excellent in his fields. However, she was discriminated against because of her skin color, eye color, so that she lost her chance to get a promotion. She decided to speak out for herself and to take her right. But, she did not succeed because the college spends money to hires top lawyers to win the lawsuit. I felt so sad that good does not triumph over evil.

Although the professor decided to stand out and speak for herself against the discrimination, she did not succeed since discrimination has more power to control the result. As W.P. mentioned, “money equals power equals truth”. Truth is confused and is being muddled in chaos. For today, discrimination is deeply embedded in some people, and it controls their behavior and thinking. Decimation cover up truth. We still have a long way to against discrimination. Today, we should improve the sense of justice to see the truth clearly and to face discrimination, instead of going with the flow and saying nothing.

Question: is there any useful method that Asian Americans can protect themselves?
