Week 5 Blog

In this week we read "You are unwise to lower your defenses", which included "The cost of speaking", “Precariously Positioned: Asian American Women Students’ Negotiating
Power in Academia”, and “An Offering: Healing the Wounds and Ruptures of Graduate School”.

In "The cost of speaking", W.P. told readers a story. The college denied his full professor promotion application because he is not white. When he tried to fight against this unfair procedure, he was be revenged by the college. They restrict his power. After the author filed the complaint to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission,  he received lawsuit which is made by five top lawyers to force him out out the school. After that, no lawyer speak for him.

We can see that the cost of speaking is expansive from this narrative. Does this mean we will not speak the injustice aloud? No. But, we should use a wise way.

From my perspective,  one person can never win in fighting against the authority. But, if it is a group of people with a leader, it is hard to say.

There are thousands of unfairness like this happened in this world. I was curious about the reason why this happened. From the lecture, I knew that creating society need workers. But these people who create the society don’t like their workers ask questions. So, they need to create a strategy to control. What they did is create difference between people. This divided people who control the power and who have no power and people who have the resources and who have no resources. These people always say that you are different from the group. The way to really create the history is education. So, white people are considered to be educated in stereotype. Black people are thought to be negative. Black are considered as on the bottom of the society and white are on the top. White people gain the privilege when they born.

This is not fair! Our society need diversity!

Question:
Does it means that only if everyone got the same rights, discrimination will be eliminate?
